My Style Philosophy + Off the Shoulder Date Night

June 13, 2016

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about what’s in my makeup bag and told you all that I was planning on incorporating more than just “mom stuff” here on the blog. Don’t get me wrong, I love writing about motherhood and giving you all advice and sharing some of the products I love, and you will continue to see all that, but I am more than just a mom and I want to open my blog up to share other areas of my life.

You may have noticed that last week I wrote my first “fashion” post, which you can find here. I use the word fashion loosely, because I am not a fashion blogger and I’m not trying to be. Let’s be real here, as a stay at home mom you’ll find me in leggings and a t-shirt 90% of the time. But I am a mom and woman that likes to look and feel her best. And I believe that there’s no reason why I can’t and shouldn’t be able to do that in an affordable way. I also want to share some of my looks and finds with you all. I love following fashion bloggers on Instagram but one of the biggest problems I have with some of the outfits they post is that they’re not something the average person can afford, $200 for a blouse? Um, no. Especially because at some point that blouse is going to have food whipped on it by my one year old.

I believe style and fashion should be effortless and affordable. I am a super frugal person, so when I see something at a store for more than I want to spend, I immediately think that I can find it cheaper somewhere else. And I usually do! So here’s my promise to you all, you’re still going to see the same ol’ content from me, plus some super fun style and home posts.

Now for the good stuff, my off the shoulder date night look…

I am in love with this summer’s off the shoulder trend and I’ve been wearing off the shoulder tops before it was even cool (a la 80s and 90s style). So I was obsessed with this shirt and the color when I found it at Forever 21. This shirt is actually a dress but it’s so short that I would never wear it as one, so I just tucked it into my jeans. And the jeans are my new fav that I have been living in. I got them from American Eagle and the holes originally had navy material behind them, but I cut it out because I didn’t care for it. Does that make sense? The bag is my mom’s that I totally swiped from her, but I found some similar bags and you can shop all the links below.

As always, thanks for reading and don’t forget to subscribe to the blog and follow along on Insta @myplotofsunshine for more baby, mama, food, style, and fun stuff!

XO,

L

I love how you restyled the dress to make it a top. I tried it on at F21 as well and was like, there’s no way that this thing is a dress! It’s such a shame too because I’ve been searching high and low for a yellow dress. 🙁 You look beautiful love. Definitely a great date-night outfit! Xx
