Putting My Face On: What’s in My Makeup Bag

April 7, 2016

Hi friends! At the end of last year, I mentioned that I had some big things planned for My Plot of Sunshine this year. One of those things was making the decision to open my blog up to encompass more of my life than just motherhood. I’ve started to do that here and there with my Easy Meal Monday posts and DIY posts and now you will start to see a little more of that as well as some other things. While being a mom is currently the largest role I play, I certainly don’t think that I’m defined by only that. There are so many other facets to me and I want to share those with you as well as all my experiences being a mother.

With that said, let’s talk about makeup. Ya can’t live with it, and ya can’t live without it.

I am the type of person that always feels a little better about myself when I put some makeup on, so I usually wear makeup every day. Because of that, I prefer a very minimal, natural look. I don’t like the feeling of a ton of layers of product on my skin, so my makeup routine is low maintenance and typically takes less than 10 minutes. These are the products that I use every day and swear by.

What’s in My Makeup Bag:

Smith’s Rosebud Salve – Holy moly this stuff gives me life! It smells so pretty and it makes your lips so soft and smooth. I keep one in my purse, by my bed, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, and in my car. That’s how obsessed I am.

Benefit BrowZings in Dark – So here’s a little known secret about me: I fill in my eyebrows. They just don’t grow very well at the ends, so I need to help them out a bit!

L’Oreal Voluminous mascara in Carbon Black – I am the queen of mascara. If I were stranded on a deserted island and could only have one makeup product with me, this would be it. I have tried every mascara from the expensive brand names to the drugstore brands and L’Oreal’s Voluminous is ahhhhhmazing. Edit: Some people have asked me if the mascara is supposed to be so thick and yes, the formula comes out kind of heavy on the brush so you do have to wipe some off on the top of the tube.

Nars Bronzer in Laguna – I’ve used so many different bronzers over the years and this one is by far my fav. A light dusting over the whole face gives you that pretty sun-kissed look without looking orange.

Clinique eyeshadow in Like Mink – I don’t typically wear eyeshadow on my lids, but I do use this shadow as a brow highlighter, which is code for “I didn’t pluck my eyebrows and this camouflages it.” One swipe underneath your brows makes your eyes pop and your brows look more defined.

Benefit blush in Dallas – I’m a huge fan of Benefit Cosmetics, they really don’t make a bad product. This blush is perfect for the apples of your cheeks, but I do know some people that use a little of this on the whole face in place of a bronzer.

Almay Smart Shade in Butter Kiss – I recently discovered this lip tint and fell in love because it goes on smooth like a lip moisturizer and leaves the perfect amount of color. It’s not quite a lipgloss and not quite a lipstick, but I love it. (P.S. It looks way more red in the photo than it actually is)

Have you used any of these products? What is your go-to-swear-by-need-to-always-have-wouldn’t-survive-without-it makeup product? Share below!

L

I will definitely try the loreal mascara now. I am such a junkie makeup girl but rarely wear makeup. I love to wear mascara and fill in my brows daily. I also tend to wear MAC Pro-long foundation. It is God sent. It last the entire day and everyone love it.

I really love reading about other women’s makeup. I don’t wear any (maybe mascara from time to time), so I find it just so fascinating!
