ONE Happy Camper: Nathan’s First Birthday Party

January 13, 2020

I know what you’re thinking– Nathan turned one LAST YEAR. *face palm* You’re right, he did. But I procrastinated and never blogged his first OR second birthday party. #badblogger But hey, better late than never, right?! And I promise I won’t wait a whole year to blog his second birthday party!

I love throwing my kids’ birthday parties– thinking of a theme, planning it all out, decorating, and seeing it come to life makes me happy. I am proud of the way Nathan’s birthday party turned out and wanted to share it with you. I loved the camping theme I chose for Nathan’s first birthday and it would be a great theme for any kid for any age!

I started off by making this birthday banner. I already had some cardstock that was the right shape and color theme so I use an alphabet stencil to make the letters for ‘happy birthday’ and just glued them on the cardstock. Then I punched holes through the paper and hung them on some twine. Ta-da!

I found the cute ‘Little Camper’ sign at At Home and I made the explore canvas myself. I love to paint so I always have black canvases lying around. I just did my best at painting some pine trees and then used a Sharpie to write ‘explore.’

His birthday cake was one of my favorite things about his party! I bought a Portillo’s chocolate cake (the besttt!) and I bought this adorable camper cake topper. Then I bought this chocolate rock candy and put it all around the base of the cake. Then I took three candles and pushed them almost all the way into the cake and put some rock candy around them to be the campfire!

These little s’mores bites were such an easy treat to make– simply crumble some graham crackers, melt some chocolate, then dip the marshmallows into the chocolate and then into the graham crackers. Allow to cool before serving!

Another one of the best parts of the party was this trail mix bar I set up! I had a bunch of clean, empty mason jars that people could fill and make their own trail mix. People could chose from marshmallows, dried banana chips, MnMs, peanuts, yogurt covered raisins, and peanut butter chips. This was such a hit!

Other finishing touches included this gingham tablecloth, some pretty greenery, and these awesome wooden slices. Some of the wooden slices were from an actual tree that was cut from our neighbors’ tree and some are store-bought.

I doubt Nathan will remember his camping theme birthday party but I will always remember the look on his face as he dug into his cake. Keep scrolling for more pics and also shop the products I used in the widget below.

L
