December is in full swing over here– the halls are decked, the fireplace is roaring, the tree is lit, it’s festive AF and I am loving every minute of it! One of my favorite things about the holidays is continuing traditions and starting new ones. I have always wanted to host a tree trimming party– there is something so festive and warm about friends/family coming together to decorate a Christmas tree. Add some beverages and snacks and you’ve got a party, too! 😉

So this year, I decided to host our first tree trimming party. It was a super small, kid-friendly gathering for a couple of Olivia’s friends and a couple of my mama friends. Of course, I couldn’t just keep it to trimming a tree, I made it a tree trimming and sugar cookie decorating party! It was such a fun and laidback afternoon and so easy to throw together.

I had an extra, smaller pre-lit tree in the basement that I thought would be perfect for the party and I bought a bunch of inexpensive but still super cute ornaments. I put the ornaments on display on a table so all the girls could easily pick them out and put them on the tree. We also added some tinsel– it may be messy and you’ll find it everywhere, but you can’t beat the sparkle and shine it gives the tree. 🙂
Before everyone came over I baked about a million sugar cookies and whipped up some frosting. All the kids got a bowl of frosting, a ton of sprinkles, and a plate of sugar cookies to decorate. It’s safe to say that more frosting and sprinkles went in their mouths than on their cookies, but they had so much fun!
If you haven’t decorated your tree yet or have another tree you’re thinking of putting up then you should totally make it a fun event with some close friends. It was the perfect afternoon and I can’t wait to do this again next year!
