march 2020 book review 1

Okay, I’ll admit it– my book reading really slowed down during the month of March. To be honest, when everything started happening with CoVID-19 I found it very difficult to focus on a book. It seemed like my mind was filled with so much anxiety that thinking/doing anything else was a challenge. But I did manage to read three books and one of them I LOVED. Here’s what I read in March:

  1. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – This was a young adult book about two very different teenagers and their teenage love story. It also explores themes of bullying and abuse. It reminded me of being a teenager and standing at the radio, waiting for my favorite song to come on so that I could press record on the cassette player. It is not a crazy, riveting page turner, but it was SUCH a sweet story and enjoyable. 3 Stars
  2. This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger – I loved, loved, loved this book. I read that this book is a combination of “Where the Crawdads Sing” and “Before We Were Yours” and I completely agree! It’s a story about 4 kids who flee an abusive Native American boarding school and it follows their journey together. It has a bit of magical realism, which I typically don’t like, but in this case I did. It was such a good story and the fact that the background of the story is rooted in real history and facts made it even more interesting. 5 Stars
  3. The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager – This book is a thriller about a woman who goes back to the summer camp where her 3 bunk mates disappeared 15 years earlier to find out what happened to them. This one kept me guessing the whole way through and was a page-turner, but the ending went a little sideways for me so I took away a star. 4 Stars

I am hoping I’ll find that I can focus on books a little better in April. Happy reading!
