An Open Letter to My Baby Boy on his First Birthday

open letter to my baby boy

I started this tradition when Olivia turned one and, of course, I wanted to continue that tradition with Nathan and write an open letter to my baby boy.

Dear Nathan,

One year ago, you made quite an entrance into this world with an unexpected c-section. I was so scared of the surgery, but anxious to see your little face and find out if you were a boy or a girl. I’ll never forget the burst of emotion from your dad’s face when the doctors announced that you were a BOY! And every day since has been a blessing.

Those first few months were filled with lots of newborn baby snuggles, trying to protect you from the loving pokes and prods from your big sister, and spit up. So. Much. Spit up. And it has been amazing to watch you develop a personality and see you learn new things. Let us not forget that even though I carried you for 9 months, your first words were Dada, Olivia, Dog, Alexa, and Mama– IN THAT ORDER. 😉

Your smile turns me into mush and your infectious laughter is quite easily the best sound in the entire world. Your adventurous spirit and playful nature is so fun to watch (except for when you trust fall backwards off the stairs, that scares me). You’re curious and tough and I can already tell how much exercise I’m going to get chasing you around!

It’s safe to say you make our little family complete; your dad and I love to watch you and Olivia interact and there is nothing like seeing your face light up when your sister walks into the room. Witnessing you two form this unbreakable bond is one of the most special and gratifying things to see as a parent.

This year went by at breakneck speed and even though I don’t want to wish time away, I am so excited to see all the wonderful things you will do and be. My sweet boy, you have shown me how much love my heart is capable of and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for you. I love you and happy birthday, Baby Boy!

XO,

Your Mommy
