3 Easy Tips for Game Day Hosting

If there is such thing as a Fantasy Football Wife, I am it. Ever since we started dating, Eric made it very clear his priorities in life:

  1. Fantasy Football
  2. Me
  3. Olivia
  4. Addison (our pup)

Just kidding! Olivia and Addison totally go before me. 😉

When football season starts, it’s pretty much a given that you will find us on our couch every Sunday. And you know what? I totally don’t even mind it. Half the time I find myself rooting for his fantasy football players too. But one of the best things about football season is the food, and it’s even better when you have good friends over to enjoy it with you.

Yesterday our friends came by to hang out and I wanted to put together a nice Sunday spread for them but didn’t want to overwhelm myself with cooking. So I opted for a few simple dishes that were delicious, easy to make, and look pretty when on display. Here are a few tips to make your game day hosting a breeze.

  1. Pick up some flowers when you’re at the store! Flowers make every spread look pretty without having to spend a lot of money. I always get mine at the grocery store because they’re so inexpensive.
  2. It’s all about the presentation! Seriously, half the battle of hosting is making things look good. I bust out all the pretty dishes and platters. Because seriously, if you don’t use them now, when will you use them?
  3. Opt for dishes that require little to no cooking! I like being able to enjoy quality time with my friends and not be in the kitchen the whole day, so I chose dishes that could be made quickly the morning of or the night before. And then added in a few store bought items, like hummus and pre-sliced fruit. Here’s what I made:

  • Chicken salad
  • Bruschetta
  • Goat cheese, candied walnut, and dried cranberry salad
  • Baked Brie cheese with fig spread (EASIEST + YUMMIEST appetizer EVER!)
    • Put wheel of brie cheese in oven safe dish and smother with Dalmatia fig spread
    • Put it in the oven at 350* for approximately 15 minutes, or until fig spread begins to bubble
    • Serve with pita chips or water crackers and enjoy!

I don’t always try to be Martha Stewart, but when I do, I think I’m pretty good at it! 😉 Cheers to your next game day get together!

XO,
L

Great tips! We’re a college football family and it’s serious business. I had no idea. When me and my husband met in Alabama one of his first questions was Roll Tide or War Eagle… I guess I picked the right one! 🙂 I’ll surely use the idea of fresh flowers from the grocery store, however; I’ll have to beef up my menu. I’ll probably get something cooked for me in the deli or something to make it a little easier on me. Enjoy the rest of the football season! #RollTide

Tailgating is my favorite time of the year! Yes break out those pretty dishes!! I don’t use them often because I have small kids and with our schedules we don’t eat a conventional dinner at the table that often. Easy foods are the best! I can’t wait to try the brie!
