Happy Monday, friends! Hope your weekend was warmer than ours! I hear it’s supposed to be spring right now, but apparently the midwest missed the memo because the weather around here has still been pretty chilly. And I feel so bad because Olivia only wants to be outside and walk around. She even asked if we could have a “pitnit” aka picnic! I mean, how could I deny her? So I headed to Walmart this weekend to pick up some picnic essentials like watermelon, Nestlé® Pure Life® bottled water, some avocados (Liv looooves her guacamole), and some other snacks. So yesterday when she woke up from her nap I surprised her with a cute little picnic in our backyard.

Once the weather is warmer, we usually take the wagon and go for a long walk to the park and spread our picnic out there. But once you’ve made that walk, you don’t have the luxury of running back inside the house to get whatever you may still need for your picnic. So I’ve mastered the art of picnicking and I always know what to pack so we have a fun time with everything we need.

Picnic Essentials

  1. A picnic blanket. I hate when you sit down on what you think is dry grass only to stand up with a big wet patch on your tush. I love this blanket because it’s waterproof, super cute, and folds and zips into a square with shoulder straps.
  2. The Nestlé Pure Life water 35-pack. You already know I’m a frugal shopper so I love that I get three extra bottles for the same price as the 32 pack. Eric guzzles water like it’s going out of style and I always need to be better about drinking more water and it’s always easier when I can just grab a bottle. You can find Nestle products at Walmart online, but make sure to visit the store for the 35 pack!
  3. Snacks! I mean, duh! I like bringing easy to eat/hold snack food so that Olivia can run around and play and come back to take a bite when she’s hungry. Grapes, string cheese, crackers, guacamole, and watermelon are all things I almost always have on hand. Pro tip: put your snacks in plastic containers so you don’t have to worry about garbage and smushing your food in baggies.
  4. Outdoor toys. Every picnic needs some entertainment! We’re big fans of bubbles (who isn’t?) and I also recently bought some inexpensive rackets with a squishy ball.
  5. Napkins/Wipes/Papertowels. Not shown here is when Olivia wanted me to lick guacamole off her fingers for her even though we totally had napkins available. I always make sure to throw a pack of wipes in the wagon to clean up any messes, spills, and to clean our hands before and after we eat.

Olivia and I had so much fun at our little backyard picnic and there may or may not have been a meltdown when it was time to go back inside.

Don’t forget to pick up your 35 pack of Nestle Pure Life at Walmart. If this version of Nestle Pure Life is not available in your local Walmart, please ask a store manager about getting the product in your area. And Pure Life is re-launching in mid-May and will have new packaging so keep an eye out!

So what’s in your picnic basket?
