Shabby Chic Inspired First Birthday Party

birthday party

Last week was Olivia’s first birthday party (I still can’t believe she’s ONE!) and I’m finally getting around to sharing pics. We had a small party for her at the local park district so that we wouldn’t have to worry about cleaning our house before and after the party and I have to say that I don’t regret that decision at all. I decided to go with a sort of shabby chic, pink + mint themed birthday party, so the first thing I did was turn to Pinterest and Etsy for some inspiration. And this is what I came up with:

Etsy Goodies: The first birthday chalkboard poster was from Printaposters. You send the seller all your child’s stats (fav food, activities, etc) and they send back a digital download and you print it yourself at a CVS/Walgreens or Kinko’s. It was really inexpensive and I loved the way it turned out. I got those really cute paper straws from Shop Cherry Sprinkles (I don’t know why, but paper straws make any drink look fancy). The tissue paper tassels on the table were another Etsy purchase from Ohh How Charming (I thought about making them, but they were way more work than I wanted to put in). Her shop also has some really cute cupcake toppers and other party goods. #takeallmymoney

Other: The ribbon garland above the table was made by yours truly and I’ll be posting the tutorial for that soon! The cake stands were from my local Home Goods, but here are some similar options (mint: here and here, pink: here and here). The mint ruffle fabric was just a piece of scrap fabric from Hobby Lobby, as well as the silverware holder.

Because this wasn’t really a kids party, I didn’t have traditional kids games or goodie bags, but I knew that kids were going to be there and some distractions were a must. So I bought some canvas tote bags and fabric markers from JoAnn Fabrics and the kids sat and colored their own “goodie bag” to take home along with a small tub of Play-Doh. They loved it! #winning

More Etsy Goodies: Olivia’s crown and outfit were also from Etsy. The crown was from a shop called Presh Toast Crowns (cutest little crowns EVER) and Olivia didn’t mind wearing it at all. Her onesie and tutu were from PROPER Gifts. Olivia is very petite so she is wearing a 9 month onesie for reference.

I promise she was way happier than she looked in this picture!

We opted for a cupcake smash instead of the full cake because Eric is a super neat freak and gets anxiety when Olivia gets a tiny piece of food in her hair, much less a handful frosting. 😉 She was so adorable and just kept smushing her little face into the frosting and loved it!

It was a small party with close family and friends and even though Olivia had no idea she was the guest of honor, I think she enjoyed herself. Happy birthday to my sweet Livy baby who made me a mommy and changed my life in the best way possible!
