New Year’s Un- Resolutions

January 4, 2016

(Sorry about the crappy picture, but it was NYE and, well, adult beverages were involved.)

It’s the first Monday of the New Year and I’m wondering how everyone’s resolutions are going? Personally, I hate New Year’s resolutions. And every year when some poor soul asks me what my resolution is, I happily shout: “I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions!” It’s not that I have a problem with people wanting to better themselves or trying something new, I just don’t believe they should wait for the new year to do it. If you want to start that diet, learn a new language, open up a business, then there is no time like the present, even if the present is in the middle of the year. So I thought I would start a new little tradition here on the blog, called the New Year’s Un-Resolutions. This is a list of things that I vow not to change in 2016.

  1. Not being a morning person. And I never have been. I love sleep and I see no reason to be apologetic about it. At 29 years old, I can tell ya that’s just not gonna change.
  2. Running the laundry in the dryer 500 times. Come on, I know I am not the only person that does this. The clothes get dried but I’m just not ready to fold yet, so I set the dryer on again… and again. So by the time I finally get around to folding the laundry it’s been dried at least five times. Oh well!
  3. Calling my mom a million times a day. My husband teases my mom and me for talking 10+ times a day, but ya know what? I don’t care. I love my mom and if I want to call her just to tell her that I made an amazing dinner that night, then I’m gonna do it.
  4. Getting my nails done. It’s my thing that I do for me and it makes me feel pretty, do I need any more of a reason than that?
  5. Procrastinating because I’m playing with my daughter. I vow not to feel bad that there is still so much left to do at the end of every day because I’ve spent the day playing with my daughter. That stuff will always be there, but my baby will not always be a baby.
  6. Wearing leggings… Every. Single. Day. If motherhood had a uniform, leggings and yoga pants would be it. They are comfy, slimming, and I don’t feel like wearing anything else.

So join me (or don’t!) in my un-resolutions, or come up with your own! What do you vow not to change this year?

XO,

L

I resolve not to make a resolution just because it’s the new year, and I’m resolute about this resolution – except maybe the leggings, maybe the leggings every day…. Uncle Jerry

Hi Lauren, i’m Alexis. I’ve read some of ur blog posts bc I’m friends with your husband on FB, however we have never met. I just wanted to share that I have really enjoyed reading your posts. I am recently a new stay at home mom, I have a 4 month old, and just like reading your blog. You are upbeat, positive and have good info to share. I don’t like making resolutions either, but one thing I am going to continue to do (even though it takes effort) is to tell people thank you for good things they do, or just share with those my gratitude for their help, kindness etc. so…thank you and keep up the good blogging.

Hi Alexis, thank you SO much for the huge compliment and for reading my blog! You have no idea how much that means to me. And I’ll allow your resolution because spreading kindness, like you’re doing, is such a good one! 😉 I hope motherhood is treating you well and your baby is lucky to have a mama as sweet as you. -L
