Last Minute New Year’s Eve Ideas

December 29, 2015

new year's eve

New Year’s Eve is just a couple days away! Are you ready for the countdown? Got your sparkly dress and champagne ready? Have big plans made? No??? If you’re anything like me, you wait until the very last minute to make plans, frantically calling every restaurant in the city trying to get a reservation, only to settle on something that costs an arm and leg. Well, this year we don’t have that problem because we are going to a wedding on New Year’s Eve and I’m super excited to have built in NYE plans. But for those of you who don’t have plans yet, here are a few last minute ideas to usher in the new year.

  1. Have a small get-together of people and play games. Games + adult beverages = always a good time. I swear that the best New Year’s Eve I’ve ever had was when we had a small get together of about 7-8 people at our apartment and played the Game of Things. It was small and intimate and the night was filled with laughter. (Other good games to play: Taboo, Cards Against Humanity, Charades)
  2. Cook a romantic dinner for your loved one. Any restaurant that you go to on New Year’s Eve will cost a pretty penny, so why not put that money towards some good cuts of meat and cook a gourmet meal for your sweetie. Don’t forget to buy one (or three) bottles of champagne! If you’re not a good cook, see #3.
  3. Netflix & Chill.
  4. No babysitter for the night? No problem! Buy a bottle of kid “champagne,” roll out some sleeping bags on the living room floor and watch the ball drop in NYC with your little ones– there’s nothing like bringing in the new year with the ones you love most.
  5. Couples Sleepover– and no, I don’t mean a swinger party. A few weeks ago my brother-in-law suggested that for New Year’s Eve all of the siblings and spouses should go over to one person’s house and all the kids can have a sleepover upstairs and all the adults can have a party downstairs and everyone stays the night. No need to worry about babysitters or driving! Double bonus!

And just because these are all stay at home ideas doesn’t mean you and your guests shouldn’t dress for the occasion, so put on a good pair of heels, a sequined dress, and don’t forget to throw up a few cute New Year’s Eve decorations. If you’ve got any other last minute New Year’s Eve ideas, I’d love to hear them! Cheers to 2016!

XO,

L

All sounds like such fun! We love games. There’ll be just us and one friend and we’ll play Chinese Checkers and watch a film. (while drinking Champagne, of course)

Lauren, You forgot to add, Call your in-laws and see if they’re available to sit. Oh so lucky us that you have a wedding to go to, we get sweet little Olivia for the night. What a great way to ring in the New Year. We will be hanging out together in our jammies watching movies and playing games like Patty-cake, Peek a Boo, and This Little Piggy. Looking forward to chilling with the baby.
