I love you TWO much: Letter to My Two Year Old

March 13, 2017
letter to my two year old

Over the weekend we celebrated Olivia’s second birthday with a small party for family at our house (check out the details of her ice cream party HERE). And as I’m sure every mother does around her child’s birthday each year, I always reflect on how Olivia is blossoming and becoming her own little person. Last year I wrote Olivia an open letter for her first birthday (read that HERE) so I thought I would write a letter to my two year old this year. My hope is that one day she’ll read these letters and know how much her mom bragged about her to the whole world. 😉

To My TWO Year Old Daughter,

First of all, how is it even possible that I am the mother of a two year old? Somehow, this second year has gone by even faster than the first, and I don’t even want to think about how your toddler years will be over in a flash. This past year has been one wild and crazy ride as I’ve watched you form your own personality and not a day goes by that I don’t marvel at the person you’re becoming.

Year one seemed to be all about how cute and cuddly you were and looking forward to each new milestone. While you’re still cute and cuddly and reach milestones, this year has been so much about your personality, the light that shines from within you. Your radiant smile, your affectionate kisses, the sweet way you say, “Mommy” (which might be my favorite milestone of them all).

I can’t get enough of your silly antics– from sticking your finger up my nose to shaking your hair like a crazy girl. Hearing your infectious belly laugh is easily the best sound in the world and makes me laugh even harder. I love watching your face light up when your favorite song (Can’t Stop the Feelin’) comes on and how you love to dance. Our after dinner dance parties will always be some of my best memories.

I am so impressed with the way you’ve come out of your shell this past year. I have seen you grow more confident and outgoing with every new day and I love watching you interact with other kids. And even more impressive is your handle on speaking, learning new words, and having what seems like full conversations with Daddy and me. You are one smart cookie and I can’t wait to see what you accomplish in life.

And even though it might drive Daddy and me crazy, there is one new feature of your personality that’s emerged within this last year: your independence. The constant “I do it” and the occasional meltdowns give us a run for our money.

But one thing is for sure, you keep Mommy and Daddy falling more in love with you every single day.

Happy Birthday, my love!

XO,

Mommy
