A fall bucket list for the whole family

September 23, 2015

It’s officially fall ya’ll and I am pumped! What’s not to love about sunny blue skies and crisp fall air, amiright?! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year and I could rattle off a bajillion (yes, that’s a word) things I love about it. But instead, I thought I’d come up with a bucket list of things I want to do this fall. It’s a combination of things that you can do with your honey, your kiddos, or even by yourself. Here ya go!

fall tree bucket list 1

  1. Go for a walk and step on lots of crunchy fall leaves. Seriously, I get so much joy out of doing this.  There is something so fun about that crrrrruuunccchhhh sound and double bonus if you do it while wearing cute fall boots. It’s the little things, people.
  2. Go apple/pumpkin picking. I’ve been doing this every year since I was a kid so it had to go on this list. Duh. But this year will be even more special because we get to take Olivia and start the tradition with her.
  3. Take a scenic drive. Eric and I love taking drives any time of the year, but it’s so much more beautiful when you get to catch the fiery red, mustard yellow, and vibrant orange leaves. Up the ante on that drive and make a stop for a PSL. (Yes, I just said PSL. Gosh I’m so basic…)
  4. Bake a fall treat. Remember those apples you picked in number 2? Well, you don’t want them to go to waste! Bake something yummy like these apple pie cookies, pumpkin pull apart bread, or even brew your own pumpkin spiced coffee.
  5. Spend a whole day, yes a whole day, watching football and binging. Cheer on your favorite team (or cute player) while noshing on some game day snacks. Some of the things I want to try to make are these chicken and waffle slidersham and mac n cheese bites, and this cheesy bacon jalapeno corn dip! Nothing is off limits! I also need this adorable sweatshirt for game days.
  6. Sleep with the windows open aaaaalllll night. Omg, is there anything better than being cozy under the covers while the cool air drifts into your room? While it may make it hard to get up in the morning, it is so worth it.
  7. Fall is notorious for rainy days, so take advantage and Netflix and chill the day away. 😉
  8. Collect some bright fall leaves and do a craft project with the little ones. Something as simple as a leaf rubbing doesn’t have to cost anything but can be pretty enough to frame or turned into some homemade cards.
  9. Carve a pumpkin. I always buy pumpkins but I’ve never really tried out my carving skillz, so I’m thinkin’ this might be the year. You can go crazy or keep it simple with these ideas and this pumpkin carving kit.
  10. Bust out your cute fall gear! One of the best things about fall (besides everything) is the sweaters, boots, and scarves that come out of closet hibernation. Click the links for a few of my favs.
  11. Have a chili cook off. Eric claims that he makes the best chili and has actually won first place in a cook off that our friends have had. Have a few friends make their best crockpot of chili and provide the fixin’s (cheddar cheese, oyster crackers, and sour cream) and you’ve got a fun little get together.
  12. Start a “Family Thankful Journal.” My mother-in-law has this great little tradition on Thanksgiving where she has a journal that everyone writes what they’re thankful for that year. Buy a cute journal and start that tradition with your family too.
  13. Volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter or donate warm clothes. Help your little ones choose some of their old clothes to donate or take them to Target and let them pick out a warm jacket for another little boy or girl. This website helps you find food banks and shelters in your area.

So there you have it! A list of fun things to do this fall. What do you have on your bucket list? Anything else I should add to mine? Tell me, tell me!

L

    My Sweet Lauren,
Yes fall is my all time favorite time of year. Maybe it’s because I was born at Thanksgiving time. I agree on all the things on your bucket list. I love decorating the house with fall items, a few cozy blankets on the couches, pumpkin or warm cookie scented candles burning. A huge fall colored wreath on the front door. Fall colored mums replacing your summer flowers in your garden with a scarecrow standing watch. Every year it was a family tradition to go apple picking and coming home baking fresh apple pies. Freezing some for Thanksgiving day. Yum, Yum. Go out and pick some fall leaves and then press them in some books and use them to decorate your table at Thanksgiving. When I think of fall, I think of happy family time and a chance to make lasting family memories. Happy fall everyone
    XOXO Mommie (Abby)
